Have you ever found yourself feeling stuck AFTER a photoshoot? You aren’t alone. It happens to many of us. I always tell my husband, “I have the attention span of a gerbil.” He knows it. I don’t even need to tell him that. Lol. I can’t seem to concentrate on more than one thing at a time. I always have my mind wandering or thinking of the ‘next thing’. What’s next? What’s next? Not always a good thing, to be a multi-tasker!
I try to keep my workflow simple. Sticky notes & list making. That’s me! I’m not trying to say that I’m the perfect organizer. Far from it actually, but this is what I use, pretty much on a daily basis to help manage my every day work & well, my life. Just keeping it real! 🙂

Calendars: I use two calendars. An agenda calendar that I bought from Target, that I can write in & scribble all over it. Has to have an actual calendar that is horizontal, with space to write in, cross out, add in, etc. I also use the Google calendar, you know, from gmail. Yes, I use two calendars & I love it. I don’t use any fancy calendars. I love my written calendar, it really is the best thing ever. Here is an example of my Google calendar. I love the color coding. You can uncheck certain categories to only see the ones you want to see. I have categories for everything! 🙂
Lists: Making lists helps me stay focused! Ever heard of a ‘to-do list’? Of course, right? Well my to-do list is like 3 in one. I have a what to accomplish for cupcake today list, what to do for my home list, and what I need to remember to do list. I know. It’s insane, but it works for me. Here’s an example of today’s to-do list. I was actually able to cross some things off this morning. Some items will be moved to tomorrow’s to-do list. This is just my way to keep focused on getting stuff done! Notice all the sad faces by my house chores. Lol!
Then I have a list for the gym. I know. Like, really Abi? Yes, really. It’s gotta be done. So Ivan & I go over our gym schedule, usually every Sunday. It helps us to stay focused on what we need to accomplish for the week & guess what, we do. We get it done. One week at a time. Some weeks we get to work out 4 or 5 times during the week, and sometimes it’s only 2 or 3 times. Regardless, it’s something that we try to accomplish & it feels good when we are able to cross things off of our list.
Sticky notes: I call myself the sticky note queen. I LOVE my sticky notes. They are all over my computer & fridge, from a “drink your water” note to remind myself to well, drink my water! Lol! I also have a sticky note on my desk with my actual workflow for the wedding that I am currently working on. This usually helps me stay focused & organized on what I need to do next. Also, helps me not feel so overwhelmed to cull & edit 2,000 photographs. I also have an edit deadline on all weddings. This helps me try to achieve that goal & makes me feel happy when I do.
& those are my ways that I stay organized. Staying organized as a wedding photographer is so important. It’s going to keep you happy & not feel so overwhelmed. You also would never want to feel burned out with the amount of work that you are receiving. Again, these methods may not work for everyone, but they work for me! I’ll probably end up doing a part 2. There really is so much more than calendars & sticky notes that help me stay organized. I also have other things that I use, to take care of my business expenses, as well as how much income is coming in, etc.
